I have over 20 years of experience recording and mixing live bands. I also have spent a fair amount of time in the traditional professional studio setting. While produced songs and albums can be amazing, there is nothing like the feel of a good live recording. In fact, a lot of live versions of songs have become more popular than the studio version. I personally have a library of recordings spanning my years at many of the venues I've worked in. Places such as Fletchers, The Whiskey (1803), and Metropolitan just to name a few. One of my favorite things to do is listen back to some of these shows. This however was before live multi-track recording was available in such a small easy to manage package. Now you can get studio quality recordings almost anywhere and Im set up to do just that.

There are many reasons you might want to record you band performing live and all of them are based around creating buzz.

- The main reason is for digital release on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Sound Cloud, Band Camp, as well as many others. Whether releasing single tracks or a whole show, it is a cost effective way to create more content to create more plays, revenue, and again buzz.

- It gives you a cost effective physical option for your future live shows. Whether you are selling them or giving them out as promotional material. People and Fans still love physical copies of music.

- Another reason is for shopping yourself to play in out of state markets or touring. Yes, the demo is still a thing whether physical or digital. Sending your live material can be more effective than produced/ studio recorded material because the Venue can hear what you really sound like. This can make it easier for them to make the call on having you play their venue.

Another reason is to capture important events such as wedding ceremonies where you have a mix of pre-recorded music, several people speaking in short intervals, and even live musicians is being able to adjust every aspect after. Most videographers I have worked with only record 2 track audio. While this can work well some of the time, it is very difficult to edit or adjust. With strategic microphone placement and recording each microphone on it owns own mixable channel, I can adjust things to get them just right to pair with your visual memory.
